SEND US YOUR NEWS →Alongside the new additions, changes for Crufts 2027 will offer greater flexibility for exhibitors and help make the show experience more manageable for dogs and the people showing them.
From Crufts 2027, exhibitors will be able to remove their dogs from the NEC from 3pm each day, bringing the permitted removal time forward by one hour from 4pm. The change follows feedback from exhibitors and will give those who wish to begin their journeys home earlier greater flexibility, including to help manage travel arrangements and traffic.
The revised time will continue to balance exhibitors’ needs with the experience of visitors, helping to ensure there are dogs at their benches and in the rings for visitors to see throughout the day.
We’re pleased to share that the pilot phase of the Royal Kennel Club (RKC) Veterinary Conformation Assessment, previously known as the Nose-to-Tail Veterinary Assessment, is now complete!
Over the summer, we were delighted to trial the assessment at three championship shows: The Welsh Kennel Club, the City of Birmingham Association, and Darlington Dog Show Society. A huge thank you to all three shows for hosting us, their secretaries for their invaluable support and everyone who has contributed to the development of the assessment so far.
Over 250 individual dogs across 76 breeds have now been assessed!
If you have any questions about the assessment ahead of its launch in November, join our free, interactive online Q&A on Tuesday 20th October, from 7 to 8pm.
Strengthening Crufts for the future
Dear Members,
We know that as Members of the Royal Kennel Club, you care deeply about the standards, integrity and reputation of the dog world. I’m pleased to inform you of some important measures for Crufts 2027 which are part of a broader programme to strengthen our governance, policies and regulatory framework.
These include:
New voluntary declarations for breed exhibitors and judges DBS checks for Group and Best in Show judges.
Requiring all BOB winners to undergo a Veterinary Health Check in a dedicated Health Screening Centre before progressing to the Group competition.
This new measure builds on the existing veterinary checks already in place at Crufts and reinforces our shared commitment to the health and welfare of dogs competing at the show. These will apply to the competition going forward, building on the Royal Kennel Club's existing regulatory and disciplinary framework. They will strengthen protections, provide greater transparency and maintain reassurance and confidence in the integrity of Crufts.
The Royal Kennel Club has carefully considered the questions and concerns raised following Crufts 2026 as part of its review of processes and standards. The new measures build on our existing policies and will provide additional protections for the future.
Crufts should remain a competition that the dog community can be proud of, and these measures will help to build on the existing confidence.
An ongoing programme.
The measures being introduced for Crufts 2027 are part of an ongoing programme of review and development. We will continue to listen to our Members and the wider dog community, review our processes and consider further measures where they can strengthen welfare, integrity and confidence in Crufts.
Further developments will be considered ahead of Crufts 2028.
Regards, Gavin Robertson, Chairman, Royal Kennel Club

Many thanks to Dee & Alan, Trish and her Mum, Alison and James & Will for attending and bringing their dogs.
